Ok.....now that I have a shape in mind, I need a quick lesson on door buildin'.....any good links? Maybe a quick DIY Mike?

I ordered a door frame kit from Camp Inn that came with complete instructions. It was a 3 page document with step by step instructions. Cary, from Camp Inn was even nice enough to send me a template for the cutout.
I'm very happy to have used this method as it provided me with a locking door handle and a good weatherproof seal. I would highly suggest going the extra mile and getting the kit.
I also bought the windows form them.

Just give them a call and they will make it happen. They even made me a special kit since I had already cut my doors.

I'm just doing a simple 30 by 36 rectangle, but I don't want to take any chances!

I just sent them an e-mail, but I'm curious about exactly what came with your kit. Did it include the edging, handle, latch, etc.--basically EVERYTHING you need except for the actual wood door and framing itself?

I see. The thing is, all I'm gonna need is the edge trimming and handle stuff. I'm using a porthole for a window--as everyone on this site is sick of hearing about.

I picked up a great door for my small motorcycle towed teardrop from a local RV salvage. In a previous life it was a cargo access door from a larger travel trailer or fifth wheel. I stripped off the white enamel and installed a window (from a semi truck salvage) and voila a great door!

and cheap. Less than $50 for door and window!
