Harbor Freight trailer

Ok, I am considering building my tear on one of the 4x8 utility trailers from Harbor Freight. The bed is 4x8 but the overall width (tire to tire) is 66"
Can I build my deck to that width and have the tires tucked up in fender wells? That would make my floor frame hang over about 9" on either side.
The floor will be constructed on nice solid 2x2 lumber (2x4 ripped in half)
That should be solid enough for that bit of overhang right?
Plus the axle on the trailer defaults to the very center, but it looks like something like the 8' cubby from Kuffel Creek requires you to move it back, am I seeing that right?
I guess tongue weight is not a big issue since all the really heavy stuff will be in the galley.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

You'll probably have no problem cantilevering the floor out that much to cover the wheels. Then you can just creat wheelhousings to enclose them with a cutout so that you can change a tire.

If needed, you could attach additional steel to the sides of the trailer frame for support.

You might end up with something like this. This is a Tourette from the 1950s.

Or you could have someone local cut and lengthen the axle enough to set the wheels outside. Thats what I had to do to mine. I wanted to have the wheels outside so I could use the entire floor space for sleeping.

Actually, the whole point of my excersize is to keep the maximum width to that 66"
