Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm putting a bunk in mine. I'm still in the construction phase so no finished pictures yet. My trailer is a 5x8 and the bunk will be 22" wide. Not huge but big enough for a small child.

Do you have any idea of the source for the hardware?

Dean_A doesn’t give the address of the hardware; but, you can find his build thread here, where he discusses the track but not the knobs/handles used:

You’ll see that Dean’s build was finished in 2009; but, you could try to PM him and see if he answers; or, as he is from the San Diego area, possibly either tnttt members, SDtripper2 or SAMIAM, may know him(?).

I bet the handle is a run of the mill injection molded handle around a threaded insert.

My initial plan had been to have 3 attachment points for the dowel on each wall, two at the foot of the bed, one at the full width of the bed, so the one rod could be moved back to a stowed position, but a sliding mechanism is much cooler.

My wife's insistent that an infant can't sleep in a canvas bed, so a temporary solid surface like Zach's may be required for a few seasons.

What in your opinions is a minimum height for a bunk including space for bedding?

I would guess comfortable height from the ceiling would be about half of one's body. Maybe a little more to sit up in. Don't forget the height of the mattress.

A young child can live with less than the recommended 30" and an adult really only needs that much from their hips to the head.
IIRC a standard Navy rack is 24" from top of the mattress to the underside of the next rack pan.

That's why they call them "racks" and not bunks!

24" won't allow me to sleep on my side. So glad I didn't go Navy.

I've seen 30" from mattress to ceiling recommended. But, it depends on who is sleeping on the bunk. Children require less than an adult and you definitely don't want to give a child enough room to stand on the mattress (not that you probably could in a teardrop) because there'd be too much chance of them falling from a standing position.
