I cannot believe after all this time, I am finally to this point, but I should be starting to work on my hatch in the next few days. So I guess I need to think about getting my hinge so it is ready to go when the hatch is. My question is, I am just shy of 84 inches wide, and most ready cut hinges are not that long, and custom cut hinges can get really pricey, so, where is the best place to order from, if I need a custom length? I think for a hatch as big as mine, I probably should stick with the improved hurricane hinge. It just looks stronger to me. But I am willing to listen to everyone with an opinion. I am spending a lot trying to get finished before mid summer, so if I can get the same hinge a little cheaper somewhere, I am interested.

I don't know what the galley you are building looks like. But at 84" wide you are looking at a large, heavy hatch. Have you given any thought to narrowing the hatch down to 5-6 feet wide and building storage into the sides. I have never seen a hatch larger then 6 feet wide. If you are trying to do the hinge cheap, you might consider an aluminum or stainless steel piano hinge, then cover with a piece of rubber roofing material, to make it water proof. Remember to overlap the sides an inch or so for water run off.

Try Rumetco sales in Syracuse. Last time I was there they had some I believe stainless or aluminum commercial piano style hinges. Freight is gonna kill ya unless you cut an 8 footer in half. 315-422-0237

I think the reason you're not getting help on this problem is that few if any have walked on this unbeaten path. (I'd call Vintage and ask...)

I'd guess you may have to go with two piano hinges covered with a rubber strip. My Hunter was done that way, but she was a four-wide.

We just drove through there to Cincinnati last month.
