Mounting / Securing AC and generator to Trailer

So Im at the home stretch here. Im having issues figuring out how to mount and secure my generator and Climate right ac unit to the trailer. I have a mesh in the front that they rest on alone with the battery but want something that one, keeps them put while in motion and two keeps them attached so that someone with 10 fingers doesn't walk away with them when parked in any given place. I thought about eye bolts and insulated cables but i dont think thats tight enough during travel. Thoughts and suggestions?

additionally im having issues shrinking the photos to 1mb to make them fit in the post.... here is a link to the pics

I would use Strut and All Thread Rod to make a cage for the stuff on the tongue.
Probably strut under the mesh and over the stuff all connected with threaded rod and locking or tough to reach hardware on everything.

Strut is tough and fun to work with and yiou can create almost anything if you sit and try to visualize the goal while looking at the stuff,or at least I do this all the time.

It is also pretty inexpensive for how tough it will be when done!

i really like this idea since it would make things pretty hard to remove without tools. I think its a good fit for the ac and battery, and will have to see how good of a grip i can get on the generator to see if this will work.

First - http://www.picresize.com/ I use custom size 500 pixels wide, you download and post....

Second - We used http://lowprolockdown.com/ - I don't think it can be taken....

If you go with the threaded rod, assuming you don't plan to remove it, consider leaving an inch of so beyond the nut and then bend the end over a bit. This will wreck the thread and make it pretty much impossible to remove without an angle grinder. Something a thief isn't likely to use.

I saw the low pro lockdown but they dont have a bracket for the ryobi generator that i have. If i had gotten the yamaha like your i would get that for sure. I did find these people who could theoretically make a customer box for one or all three items maybe

So looking for input on this. the ac will most likely never be used for anything other than the camper but the battery and generator i see maybe needing to remove. Anyone else that has this type of AC have you found other uses for it other than for the TnTT? if the consensus would be that no one uses the ac for more than this bending is a probably the way ill go... i was also thinking of locktite on the threads.

Two systems. U-bolts with nylon insert nuts to hold it down where you want it, and a cable or piece of chain to keep it there if a thief happens past with a 1/2" or 9/16". If you make it time-consuming to steal it, 1) gives the good guys more time to notice, and 2) discourages a thief who, by definition and nature, is a lazy so-and-so looking for the easy pickings.

You can't stop a determined thief. All you can do is make it difficult enough to encourage them to look elsewhere.

thanks all here is the finished product for mounting... final thoughts were that ac can be permanent and generator is removable for servicing i.e. oil changes.

Love the duct idea. Can you tell me what kind of air duct connections you used on the ac and your trailer?? I want to get the same thing for mine. :D

the ducts came with the climate rite unit.. it seems like slightly heavier dryvent ducts. the only special things were the wall attachments, again came with AC, and the connectors on each end of the hose that just thread on.....

here is a link to the attachments for the trailer https://climateright.com/air-conditioni ... ories.html

  • Hmmmm, "permanent A/C, ducting, and removable generator"...where have I heard that before? My squareback TTT has all three features, though not in the normal configuration nor easily constructed. I had fits getting my A/C ducting system to allow fast enough airflow to keep the system from thermal shutdown (two hindrances: a right-angle exhaust exit, and restrictive exit vent), and rebuilt it (w/modifications, three times). My swiveling/slide-out 2500w generator, mounted in the galley, has been extensively modified with a much stronger slide mechanism, with an added support bar, and an extended-run fuel system, too. Plenty of work to accomplish, but most one-off designs are; both were worth the effort, though.

Looks ok BUT I'd make sure I had a CO alarm inside. If there was any leak that might draw in fumes you could wake up dead...

  • That's a good suggestion, I've been meaning to put both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the cabin, but haven't done so, yet. Both the generator and fuel tank are on slides, and are intended to run only when fully pulled out, and the generator exhaust is directed off to the side. I have a fire extinguisher mounted in the galley, a second one in the cabin, and one in my truck, so fire can be handled quickly....as to CO entering the cabin, there's small chance since the only openings between galley and cabin are sealed with foil tape (around the A/C unit), or PL Premium adhesive (inside and out along all seams). There are a couple of small openings for wiring to pass thru, but they are very small, and midway up the rear bulkhead. Any seepage would be miniscule. And, I always have open side vents, and a powerful main air circulator going whenever I'm inside, so CO buildup wouldn't occur anyway.
