outer walls 1/2 inch off PICTURE ADDED

Need help on next steps.

Outer walls are up and beginning to put the studs in. One side is complete but when I began cutting studs for other wall, I began to realize that the stud measurements were longer.

Sure enough I measured the height of each wall and they are 1/2 inch off. 45 1/2 inch compared to 46 inches. It is a 5x8 ft trailer with Rimple design.

Choices I see:

1. Since it is a 5x8. 1/2 inch difference with 5ft to play with will not be an issue.
2. Take down taller wall and sand glue off and glue and screw wall closer to 45 1/2.
3. Insert 1/2 shims where needed. (Thinking that the 1/2inch will show more on hatch.)

Or, chill. Newbie with first large mistake and I am over reacting.

Thanks,
Mike

Idd add to the shorter wall or subtract from the taller.
I think youll live to regrett it if you dont fix it.
That would annoy me

It's hard to visualize what you have going, but it sounds like one wall is attached and the other isn't. Could you clamp the loose wall to the attached wall and make them the same using a trim bit on a router? That's kind of what I do but while they are on the bench. (Actually I use a template but it's the same concept.)

I will try to take some pictures and post today.

The inner walls are not up yet. I stopped when I noticed that both exterior walls on side of trailer are a 1/2 inch off.

Thanks for direction.

Can you put 1/2 shim plate under short wall.... That would be my solution... Even a 1/2 inch loss in height makes cab area smaller, in the end you will wish you had "extra" space...

Hopefully here is a picture adding it through taptalk.

The left wall is a half inch taller than the right. Both walls are exterior. I have not added interior walls once I noticed the 1/2 inch height difference.

Advice on to continue or take wall down and put new one on that will be closer in height.Image

Things are going to get difficult when you go to install the ceiling and roof if you don't plumb it up.

I've decided that unplanned setbacks are just part of camper building.

Thanks Tony.

That was my thinking but was hoping for it not to be true. Too many dimensions to make sure are correct. I leveled it, squared it and made it flush to the front and back but forgot height.

At least I got it pretty early.

Lay the short wall over the tall one and see where the error is. If you can trim the tall one down great. If not do not continue. Nothing will fit as you go on. If the error is on the bottom, trim a half inch off and fill it back in where the door cut out is. Make sure if you do this that both door openings will be the same size. Try laying the two sides on top of each other and make them a perfect match before reinstalling them.

I agree with the suggestions. You are very early in this build and this is where you have to make things right. If you don't fix it, the issue will only compound and become a thorn in your side the entire way. Trust me... these are just growing pains and there will be more to come along the way. Chalk it up to experience, learn from it and keep putting one foot in front of the other!

Thanks Woodbutcher and Atomic77.

Walls is down and I feel much better about it.

Atomic77-My wife and I read your blog over Labor Day. What a great build. Way above my education level.

My wife is doing a 50"s decor in our interior. She loves your lighting. Can you tell me where you sourced it from?

thanks mike,

Hey Mike... Thanks for the kind words. When it came to the lighting I stressed and stressed about it as I poured over eBay, Pinterest, Amazon and Etsy. I just couldn't find exactly what I wanted. So then we started searching local places and we found clearance items here and there and honestly we just picked them up randomly. One I found lying on a table in a department store and the other I can't even remember but it was just random clearance item, yard sale type finds. Best of luck with the rest of your build and if you get into a jam make sure you come here and find us. We will certainly be glad to help you along the way. Lots of great info, wisdom and some brilliant minds at work here.
