Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Id like to hear about sourcing and bending 4x8 or similar sized materials for the curved areas like the galley hatch, etc. Anyone use a plastic or synthetic instead of wood? Then covering it with alum sheeting as normal?

I live in KC and having trouble finding sources for the common plys people here seem to use...baltic birch ply or luan or purebond stuff. Im leery of ordering something without seeing it.

Any ideas?

Try calling a couple of cabinet shops. Tell them your problem. Ask if they can order 1/8" Baltic birch.

I have used FRP which is about 35.00 a sheet at HD and Lowes. It bends easy takes adhesive, it is waterproof, etc. I used it on 2 trailers. After it was applied I covered it in aluminum, that was the finish I was going for

What about aluminium composite, like they use for signage (brand names in the uk include a Dibond).

It's as thin as very thin ply, already has an aluminium skin, and will never rot.

Probably harder to bend round, but could be worth a think!

(But take no notice of me... I e been lurking for about 10 years and still haven't got round to building anything! )

What you're describing sounds exactly like what Im using for the walls and roof now in my last two teardrops, but it simply wont take the bend in the hatch. Plus, its extremely heavy for the hatch. So Im hunting for other stuff...

I know Home Depot used to carry bumpy fiberglass panels in 4 X 8 sheets. It is the same material used inside commercial freezers. It bends easily and glues well also. It sounds like what greygoos was talking about.

That is exactly what I am using. My exterior walls, roof and galley hatch are all lined with ACM. In fact, my roof is going to be a repurposed sign.
