My hurricane hinge leaked the first time i opened thw hatch. Dew on the hatch came through by capillary action. At that instant I knew I should have used a stronger, easier to install and much less expensive piano hinge. Congrats to you for making a good choice.

My leaky hinge was repaired by using rubber over the top. A friend gave me a 1 foot wide roll of thin tough rubber for roofing. I split the width into 6" strips. The edges were secured by aluminum carpet/flooring transitions screwed through on the edges. I cut the rubber long so it will hang over the edge of the roof/hatch. Install the rubber flat to the hinge as it will bow up when the hatch is opened.

Many folks have done the same rubber over hinge with good results.

Here is what I did. I don't have a picture of of it finished. You can buy EPDM roofing on Ebay by the foot.

I ran a bead of caulk under the rubber but I really don't think is is needed.

Those 390 Dukes are so cool. I see 3-4 of them almost everyday now in the Phoenix area.
