Too much play in Yakima rack on Top Loader brackets?

I installed the factory "Top Loader" brackets from Yakima racks as an attachment point for my 1A towers. I adjusted the feet of the towers to give me a snug fit on the Top Loaders then tightened the clamps as much as possible. However, there seems to be a lot of play at the attachment point, see video. Is this normal or do I need to make an additional adjustment or add a part to the equation?

I've got four Thule Artifical Rain Gutters on my pickup cap. They've got bumps that preclude lateral movement and they work on both Thule and Yakima feet.

I think I'd consider installing screws (drilling/tapping) on either side to prevent that?

The rails may be designed to compensate for some lateral curvature / angling of the roofline?

Whereas your roof is flat right?

I have not used this particular rack.

However, none of any racks I have used has any front to back motion. Otherwise the load will be sliding every time you slow or accelerate.

Are you sure you have it installed correctly. My guess is the outer clamps should not be under the mounting bracket but in the metal bar above it. Again the guess is that the bar is almost exactly the width of an outer clamp.

The clamp should be under the bracket. You'll have to put a spacer under the bracket to lift it enough for the clamp to slide under or mount them so they a hang over the sides a bit.

I can't see why you couldn't just shim the clamps to give them something thicker to grab onto. Wood, plastic, metal...woudn't much matter what the material was as long as it didn't rust or melt away.
