Slide-out and Lift Systems Secrets

Postby iconicflux » Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:05 am

Instead of tossing ideas into one place I thought I'd start a thread for slide-outs and lift systems to gather info on how the different manufacturer cable systems work.

The number of hours I've spent finding sensible info now is pretty high.

Worm Drive:
Lippert aka. Schwintek: (I dislike these guys. They will NOT sell aftermarket. You *can* order parts but I have yet to figure out what their rack & pinion pitch & depth is to have one made. I get that they try to not let you buy their stuff aftermarket because they had some brand damage from inappropriate use but holy cow we're just a bunch of home builders.)

Rack & Pinion:
LCI (Lippert):
Possibly: Gate Opener Hardware has easily available rack & pinion units.

Nice work on getting that information together.

One source for slide out (and other RV) equipment is the salvage industry. Wrecked RV's are a dime a dozen and our local u-pull it yard usually has at least one there.

Here's another source for new slide-out hardware: http://www.busrvparts.com/slide_out_units.htm#DYI_Slide_Out_Drives_and_Parts.

Their slide-out rooms are actually Liftco glide-out rooms which use a design that is uncommon. It appears they have the motor in the floor of their slide-out. The box that goes up above the floor from the motor is their gear box which then appears to turn a lead screw. The floor itself is on a track and you'll notice it has some glides near the top. for when the floor is extended or fully in.

I don't know anything about the reliability of this system at this time but I'd certainly love to know more about it.
