Using Steel Sheeting for Floor Pan

Postby DarknessFalls » Mon Jul 10, 2023 4:22 pm

If I use steel sheeting for a floor pan, how thick should the sheeting be? Right now, the trailer has 2x2x3/16” tubing every 24”, should I add extra supports in as well?

What's the purpose of the metal? Is this your floor?

It will be the the under trailer protection as well as what the insulation and the finished floor sets on.

I'd be concerned it will trap moisture. I coat the bottoms of my floors with epoxy. It soaks in and plasticizes the wood. The underside of the teardrop I build in 2013 looks just as it did back then and it's seen many-many miles of gravel roads.

I don't think it is necessary or very beneficial, but I would be looking at 16 or 18 ga.
Thin enough to bend. Easy enough to weld. Thick enough to protect from major missiles. But not too heavy and not hard to find, handle, or transport.
