Laying out hatch design

Postby elfkinbaby » Mon Oct 16, 2023 7:03 pm

First build and a total construction newbie. I'm having trouble understanding page 54 and 55. When I do an arch from the measured Brad and upper attach point my arch doesn't end above the top shelf point. I'm also confused by the numbers as they don't all show on the diagram on page 55. Anyone out there that could help me understand better? I'm feeling pretty dumb now lol!

So... I'm about 99.9% sure you're using my book. ;)

When I do an arch from the measured Brad and upper attach point my arch doesn't...

You need to draw the first arc 20-5/16" from the brad (or center point of the hinge), and the second arc 20-3/8" from where the upper bulkhead sits on the countertop, not the upper attach point, as you suggest.

What a pleasure to get a response from the man himself! So what is the 12.85 radius referring too?

That's the length of the strut when the galley is closed.
