Kerf calculator for elliptical curves

Postby SrMofo » Mon Jan 29, 2024 3:26 pm

Hey there. I've been lurking a while, but now that my build is well on its way I thought I would join.

In my design phase I made a calculator for generating ellipses. It's similar to the round bend calculators floating around , but this one tells you where the kerf should be and at what angle for an ellipse. I built it using using the front end of excel only. It would have been much simpler with software like Matlab or even just VBA, but I know most camper builders likely don't even know what those are or have access. I didn't even use scripts or macros so it will not throw security warnings which should keep you safe from someone hijacking the file and dropping in malicious code.

Pretty simple to use, just complete the yellow highlighted cells, everything else gets generated, and the sheet dynamically adjusts. The file is formatted to give you a clean print job you can take to the work bench.

There seems to be some interest for it over on the facebook foamie group so I thought I would see if there is any interest here? If so where is a good place to post it?

Here's a pic

Yes I'm aware circle calculators exist and they would likely work just fine for near round shapes depending on material, but these don't work well for wide ellipses. Yes Im also aware you just hack at it until it bends to your need, but there is a better approach.
