Home Builder's Shop Manual Done!!

Postby Steve Frederick » Thu Sep 22, 2005 1:38 pm

Well, It's almost done! My shop manual will be ready in the fall, just in time for Christmas!
Right now, It's a CD,200-plus, pages lots of pics and tutorials of my methods, jigs and tricks from my shop as I built the Stripper, and two Lil'Diner's.
The manual covers methods to build with ply/foam/ply panels.
Making larger ply panels as on the 'Diners.
Fiberglassing, and other tips.
I'm also including all of the relevant shots from the shop, in full size files.
There are no designs, I'll leave that to others.
I'm wondering whether to offer a printed version, as well as, the pdf and jpeg files?
I'm still figuring out the price.
More info to follow!

...Steve, I think that what you are doing is pretty cool. I would suggest just the CD, that is what most people get when they get the Kuffel plans unless they just DL them from the site. You might not want to offer them as a DL because of the bandwidth you would have to host/pay for and offering a printed copy would get pretty expensive and could be risky(financially) for you. I would also suggest that you include some generic profile drawings of 3 or for standard design along with the relative measurments...my .02 worth and good luck

p.s. I think I would charge somewhere in the 50 buck range

Jack,
I was thinking just that! Offer a CD, let folks print their own book. I got the Kuffel creek CD, that's what I did. As for profiles, I don't own any! I wouldn't want to cause a ruccuss over copyright issues. :? The content of the CD is 100% mine. I do have a resource section where I list places to get profiles, as well as, supplies.

Sounds fantastic Steve!  Let me know when you figure out the price, and I might be your first buyer. I am wanting to build mine similar to how you did your tears, so it will be incredibly helpful to have your manual handy.

Put me on your list also! At this point, it's the blind leading the blind and I can certainly use some expert guidance.

Steve... I think the CD is the way to go and from the response above it looks like you're well on your way... Although I've read through your build journals several times I would like a copy also. Thanks and good luck with it... Dave

After lurking on this board for about a month, I have come to the realization that I actually know about one quarter of what I thought I knew... Therefore I am very interested in a copy of your CD. just let me know when and how much....

Sounds great put me on the list, will it be a CD or DVD. The DVD would be nice on the TV. I still haven't put a DVD player in my computer yet but this would be a good reason to do it.

How about some scratch and sniff to go with it  ( glue, paint, and so on) but than that would be breaking some laws and also cause a price increase.
