Towing and/or tow vehicle subforum?

Postby DrewsBrews » Wed Jul 22, 2015 9:07 am

Yes, I'm new here.. but sometimes it takes a fresh perspective to see something missing.

I was rather perplexed to see there was not an area dedicated to getting your trailer to the campsite! I'd think there should be a place where we can discuss towing precautions, techniques, and equipment that helps make the community safer (especially for beginners to towing). Being as my TV is not rated at all for towing I needed to put some thought into setting it up to pull even 1000lb. I figure others may be in the same boat also. It looks like there are many tow vehicle specific questions asked in the general forum and eventually get lost among the other discussions. Is this expected or do you think it would serve better to have a separate area to contain them? It may make the info easier to find and lead to less clutter.

If you type in "TOWING" in the search engine above you get 35 pages related to towing. Lights that won't lite safety chains that drag or won't stay put. Weight capacities and on and on.

I have been towing 3 years + with two " not rated to tow " vehicles.
and we won't even mention towing with the motorcycle :D

Yes you can get yourself in trouble if you don't take some degree of ownership for your own safety. Slow down , give yourself a wider margin for error by increasing your safety zone distance from fellow motorists. Rethink even safer with rain and snow in the mix. Simple things like choosing fewer hills and other hazards on roads that you may be familiar with can also help.

I think the operative words are to use "COMMON SENSE"

Yep I'd agree. I have a few thousand miles of towing under my belt in a few vehicles. The majority being with the unrated vehicle. Though I wouldn't be where I'm at had I not learned from others.

If folks don't think it's necessary then that's fine. Just a suggestion.

I too think a targeted forum would be a good idea. Makes it easier to find what you want on an important topic.
