ASIANFLAVA,
You had a picture posted, but it isn't coming through?

Though not an official entry, Mike's light idea is a good one.

The general idea behind this contest was to let everyone see what off the shelf options there are, and what you can do with a little, or a lot of tinkering.

LED's seem to be the most efficient for battery systems, though not inexpensive.

Off the shelf fixtures with some modifications are pretty easy, and quite attractive.

Mike's idea for using a battery light and hardwiring it is great!
Low cost custom lighting!

A couple other thoughts are using whatever old or new fixture you find, and converting it from whatever voltage it was, to the voltage you need.

Here is an example; it is a ceiling light from a 1940's passenger bus,
Image
It was originally a 6 Volt lamp...easy enough to change the bulb to a 12 Volt, but the wiring and socket was pretty rough, so I just replaced them.

If re-wiring isn't something you're comfortable with, another option is to use an old (or new) 120 Volt fixture, and simply install a 12 Volt bulb.

This is an old bed lamp that clipped on the headboard.
I removed the clips, screwed it to the wall, and put a 12 Volt bulb in it.

While far from energy efficient, it sure puts out a lot of light!

Okay, now for the winners!

Thanks to all of you who entered, a lot of good ideas, and attractive options!

Third place goes to AZ KICK for the custom made Cherry wood lamps.

Second place goes to Leon for his custom Oak and LED fixture.

And # 1 goes to Steve for his custom prism and LED fixture!

All those lights were great in creating something new and reburbishing something old. . . . I liked the old bus light and the one from the headboard. They brought back memories from the 40's...

Those are all awesome lights. Now I got the hankering to create something unique myself. Hope it's half as creative as yours. Congrats to all the winners! :applause: :applause: :applause:

WOW Thanks Rob. I was searching ebay for a porthole when I saw this prism. And a light bulb went off in my head. It's sure going to light up the cabin.
