SawTooth XL - Update 6.27.11 - Repairs started

Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

Jess

What did you use to skin it? Nice tight radius.

I need a new Avatar. I'd put my dog up there but she doesn't look much like me. She's the skinny one.

Jim - I used 5.2mm chinese plywood from Lowes. It seemed to bend ok after kerf cutting and using some hot water on it. That is one thing I will do differently on the next trailer is bigger radii on the corners. These are all 6" and should be 10"+ minimum in my opinion. Still with some effort i was able to get them to turn out ok....

Thanks! :)

I decided to build my off road coupler the last few days. Should be pretty strong. The 3rd axis pivot is a grade 8 bolt, the others are grade 5. I cut some pieces of pipe and turned them down on the lathe along with some UHMW bushings. There is a UHMW washer at the 3rd axis pivot too. The "C"s are made from 4x3x1/4" steel tube. The 3rd axis pivot is 1.25" diameter. I also cross drilled the pivot bolt for a 3/16 roll pin...

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

I hadnt see this thread before. Thats a very nice build and I love the profile
The profile I worked up is perty nice but I like yours better. Im thinking about modifying my profile more like yours, this is what I was planning as a profile, about the same except for the rear of the trailer.

Would you mind if I use your profile?

Go ahead... Mine is a modified Grasshopper anyway... Thanks for the compliments :)

Ditto to what wlivesey said :)

Any progress to report? You have a few people anxiously awaiting your build.

Sorry guys... no updates yet. Still un-employed and trying to survive so the trailer funds are non-existent. I'll get back after it as soon as some steady income is found...

Sorry to hear about your employment troubles. It's a bummer when you have lots of free time but little money to enjoy it. I remember getting my membership to the cast off employee society after being with the same company 26 years, it's no fun ...
