Hi
I started this thread on Newbies, Introduce yourselves forum, but I continue it here .
I call my van design carawhale – combination of van and punt boat.
It should be ready next spring and I am hoping to do some travel with it on road and on small protected waters.

Trailer might need some kind of winch or trolley - lets see.

I have 2hp yamaha and trolling motor - so I am going to use those. The wooden back grill will be made from 3 parts and one part will be removed when outboard is attached. Outboard can also be fastened to one side while wan is used on land.

Inside bench can be used as table or pushed back "under the back deck" so it would not be on way.
I have starts building and hoping to launch it on spring.

Here some “photosâ€

That is a really great design. I love the way it looks and the way than you have done a cross between a teardrop and a back entrance boat design.
Can't wait to watch you build it.

I like it dispite the fact it looks like a whale. The underside of the your design is a legitimate boat hull. Basically it is a pram. It is a matter of taste of course but I say loose the whale and make it look like a slick boat.

I was convinced that there was too much weight at the back with the person and the outboard, so I spent an hour doing some hydrostatic calculations.

This showed that the boat will sit within a degree or two of level, with one person sitting where you have shown. The immersion (depth in the water) to the bottom of the shell would be about 100mm (4") - that excludes the rubbing strips that you have shown below the bottom.

So that proved you were right all along!

Last the transom bulkhead. Next some framig and then bottom. I am going to do the bottom finishing and painting at this section so no need to roll the van over again.

Since the curve of the roof is faily constant why not make the hatch cover slide on curved runners to open it? Then you do not have a hatch in your face while piloting the boat/whale/trailer?

Just a thought. Looks like you are doing nice work. :)

Are you going to fiberglass the hull?

HI

I am just going to glasstape the bottom seams - not the entire hull- I am not big fan of glassing. I am allso alleric to epoxy - so I am going to use polyester resin, but the van is moustly staying on the trailer so it´s not big issue.

First I draw the hatch with rails or runnrers, but then thought that it´s better with hinges. The runners need to be quite long and I have to laminate them and then route groove etc. and water would aesyly get trapped between rails.
