I got a package from the UPS guy today.
Upon opening it, I found a bag of coffee beans... Mexican Beans, that is.
Kai sent me a sample of his "Mexican Special" blend of beans.
I'll tell yaa... Pretty in two ways.

Do you think the coffee is good enough to bring some to Minden?

Of course I will bring some for Lois and myself. I would like to share the mexican joy.

I worked all over the world after I lect Eureka, so I got used to realy good strong coffee. Most americans drink what I like to call "dark hot water". Anyway I will have some on hand to share in Minden.

I mailed off my request for a spot to Grant when I was in Texas earlier this week. Am waiting with baited breath for the confirmation number so that I can get my space reserved in Minden.

Well Kai,
We deffinately share the same preferences for coffee.
I've used that term about dark colored hot water several times.
It's a real drag to go into a restaurant and experience dark hot water with a meal.
I've been buying a blend of beans from Costco, made by the San Francisco Bay Coffee Co., it's called Colombian Supremo.
I have a coffee press and I use one grinder's amount of beans and get maybe two cups from what most people would make 8-10 cups with. :twisted:
When my neighbor comes over he'll add about 2/3 cup hot water in his cup.
Your Mexican blend was nice and sharp!
When Joan takes me to Kona next week, I'm going to be checking out the different blends over there as well. There seems to be a strong Hawaii-Humboldt connection going on. The latest, that I've seen is a new coffee line called Konaboldt. I'm deffinately going to try that one.

I lived in Hawaii for 8 years. I loved the Kona coffee. I know you will too.

I agree, Kona coffee is sooooo yummy! Every time I have a chance to go to Hawaii I always bring back bags of coffee! I also love coffee from New Orleans, with Chicory in it! Gives it a nice bold kick!

Yessireebob! They aint nuttin like waking up to a good cuppa hot water in the morning. :lol:

That talk about Chicory... I'm real curious to try that. I don't even know what it is. Can you buy it locally and add it to the mix, or is it pertinent to the New Orleans area?
Is it like a spice or something?

Dean, you can probably pick up a can at your grocery store, there is a brand that most grocery stores usually carry, but I can not remember the name. If you run a Google search on "Coffee and Chicory" you'll get lots of hits on places that carry specialty/gourmet blends of coffee with chicory that you can purchase online. Check out the neat description regarding the use of chicory in coffee at http://www.sweetmarias.com/coffee.other.chicory.html . Evidentally, chicory comes from the endive plant, and it was typically used as a filler in coffee.

I was able to buy coffee form Cafe Du Monde at a local asian grocery store. I got my mom some so she can make Vietnamese coffee, the chicory and sweetened condensed milk. Don't know if she tried it because I didn't have a chance to show her how to do it.

Don't know about those of you in (North) Merka, but here in Yurp the French used to like blending chicory into their cheap coffee to 'spice' it up. It was frowned on by most other Yurpeens as being a bit vulgar.

We were in New Orleans a couple of months back and Shirley wanted to go to du monde for beignets...... thank you for reminding me.... she is now getting some coffee (with chickory) and a mug for part of her xmas present......

I hate to do any damage to a stereotype but actually the British are turning towards coffee. Latest data is 120 million cups of tea per day and 90 million cups of coffee (population about 60 million).
