Why do people keep making offers on my truck? (a rant)

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Feb 09, 2005 9:08 am

Why do people keep making offers when they do not want to buy something? Why? I have had three seperate people come by and look at my truck, make me an offer which I accept, then they say that they will come back after work, on payday, etc? They beg me to hold the vehicle for them. One person even gave me a $25.00 deposit saying they would be back last Friday and I said if he did not show there would be no refund.
He never showed up, nobody ever comes back. Why do idiots do that?
If you do not want the thing, do not make an offer!
The money from that truck was supposed to start my trailer project. I keep looking at starting material prices, get all excited, and then people do not show. I just do not get it.
When I make an offer on a vehicle, I go back and buy it. If I do not want it I never make an offer in the first place. Real simple!

Hey, I'd keep the truck and collect the deposits every week. Don't forget to report that $25 profit on your Federal 1040. Never know who might be lurking on this board.

We just bought a car for our son, when we made an offer, we gave a $500 deposit, and made the purchase subject to a mechanic's review, with the offer refundable.

If people aren't serious about an offer enough to give you that kind of deposit, I wouldn't stop trying to sell the truck, just let the person who gave the offer know that you're still going to try to sell it, until they actually come up with the money.

Shrug,

You say they make and offer and you accept, so what may be happening is buyers remorse. They start thinking, "If I offered X and he took it, maybe that was too much."

Next time someone makes an offer, say no, that's not enough, and go up a hundred or so dollars so they think they are getting a good deal.

The last time I bought a new truck, I offered a price I felt shure they would not take, and they took it. The first thought that ran thru my mind was "I offered too much"!

Shrug,
What type of truck is it? My fater-in-law has a 1970 chevy 1/2 ton, it's a real beater but he gets offers all the time to buy it and everyone keeps backing out.

My buddy has a 94 Ranger, nothing special just a reg cab Ranger. People come to his door all the time and ask if he is selling it. He has told me about this happening, once I was actually there when someone came to the door asking. It would make sense if it didn't go anywhere but it is his daily driver.

Or consider this

Hello all,

Having a wife in police work for 27 years, and she can tell you why they do that. You have something for sale, the person comes to your house to look at the object, you talk in your house, or garage, and they leave. They may have given you a deposit. While you are talking they are scoping out what you have in the house or garage in the way of fenseable goods. They will return later to steal those objects, and maybe even their deposit money back. It happens all the time, and a lot more then you know.

Another police tip, never put the time of a funeral in the newspaper. There are criminals that check that time,a simple check of the names of survivors, and their home town, a simple check of the phone book reveals the address. While you are at the funeral at 2PM they are robbing your house.

We have had neighbors that this has happened to, and in both cases they knew the person when the police arrested them.

It's a different world out there then 20 years ago, think, and be careful.

here's my problem.

I have this really nice little Volvo 240DL. It's a 1988 and I take really good care of it. I keep it clean and waxed and anytime something goes wrong with it, which is really rare, I get it over to my Volvo mechanic to get it taken care of. It's a cream puff.

Everywhere I go people ask me what I would take for it. I tell them that it's not for sale but I start getting offers. But the offers are only for like $300 to $500. You gotta be kidding me! Do I like have "CHUMP" written on my forehead or something? Hell, if I was going to GIVE it away, I'd give it to my nephew or someone that I really liked.

I've often wondered if this is a Tennessee thing or are people insulting all over the country. When it comes to buying stuff, people are just really really flakey. So in keeping with the subject of this thread, I really think that there are just tons of people out there that love to shop but aren't really in a position to buy. They're broke. But they just gotta walk the walk and talk the talk. Then when it comes time to put up or shut up, they'll actually put a small deposit on the darn thing because they don't have any other way out. They've done gone and shot their mouths off too much and can't back out. They've done acted like too much of a big shot and they gotta keep up appearances.

(In all honesty I figure that IF I was going to sell the car, I'd ask $1500 or so for it. So it's not like I'm being rediculously in love with the thing and thinking that "Oh, it's so so so collectable cause Volvo doesn't make these anymore. It's gotta be worth at least 10 thou." Gimme a break! But it's not for sale because if I sold it, then I'd just spend the money. Then I wouldn't have the car and I wouldn't have the money either. And I'm getting more use and enjoyment out of it that the money would get me so I'm keeping it.)
I am NOT a complete idiot! Some of the pieces are missing.

Here is what happened to my husband. Someone said they wanted his snow mobile. It was his friend, so he let him come and pick it up...he used it and now that winter is almost over, they have decided not to buy it. I asked my hubby if he learned anything from this...but I don't know...he is too trusting and optimistic all the time! :o

Heck, I wish someone would make a offer on my truck! :?

I have a 1980 Chevy Pickup, C20 Stepside with added towing package, 350 engine, gooseneck ball in bed and brake booster. I was asking $1000 and can't seem to get anyone to even look at it! :(

Guess if I quit trying they will flock to my door!

Anyone have any selling tips???

Anyone need a truck? :D :D :D
