Well don't that beat all. I really thought that this thread would die, but it didn't. Talk about some staying power. It just goes to show you the power of Pickles and the effect they have on people.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Image

I'm Earl Peckerhead from the Association for the Prevention of Pink Flamingo Inebriation. Each year, thousands of our fine feathered friends become addicted to pickle juice. This leads to lives of unwanted egg laying, chick abuse, crime, degradation, nestlessnes and eventually death.

These needless tragedies could be prevented. If only our government had the backbone to ban "the demon pickle juice". Unfortunately, Congress influenced by the powerful and rich Pickle lobby led by the powerful and politically connected Gaylord E. Gherkin and the National Pickle Association. These corporations put profits ahead of the lives of pink flamingos.

Fortunately, there is something you can do. Our organization lobbies full-time to combat the pickle scourge. But, we need your financial support to carry this fight to the hall of Congress. Please send your contribution today to:

The Association for the Prevention of Pink Flamingo Inebriation
12345 Long Leg Avenue
Washington D.C. 12345

And remember, a plastic lawn ornament is a terrible thing to waste.

Yours truly,

Earl Peckerhead

I was just hoping to see a picture of that bear because it almost sounded like maybe the people were mistaking a Kodiak for a Grizzley...

Try this link and yes the number three photo will curdle milk! The trouble with #3 photo is, it has nothing to do with the first two, still gruesome photo.

:NC I am going to go out on a limb and guess you were referring to the .50 AE. It's a very good weapon and a decent round but (for it's size) it has relatively low penetrating power and because of it's size and the pistol is an semi-automatic you need pretty large hands to shoot it well. My personal choice for bear defense as a carry pistol would be a Ruger super redhawk in .454 Casull. It has way more power, 1871 ft/lbs at muzzle compared to 1414 ft/lbs for .50, comparable to 300 Weatherby, and I can find a grip to fit my medium to small hand plus the gun itself is about half the cost. I wouldn't advocate anybody shooting a bear, you'll probably just make him mad, but as a final option I want something that might actually go completely thru the bear!

That .454 Casul is a good round. I shot a friend's Taurus awhile back. I just have the DE in a .44 Mag. But I figure that I can get off all 9 rounds in the time the .454 wheel clicks five times.

You are right though. I'd hate to have to shoot a bear. And it probably would just piss it off more. Maybe I could buy some time for the others in my group. Then again, they would probably be standing and shooting too. Horrible scenario. I hope I never encounter it.
