Email on the road?

Arne, If you can live without your stock stuff while you are on vacation, here's another way to get email on the road...

Sorry, Mike.. I can live without email, but not the mutual fund downloads.

As I get used to it, it won't be a big deal. It is just all new to me.. and the first, long, only trip I've ever taken had me in a new place almost every night, which made it more difficult..... but, I'm working on it.... I don't plan on signing up for some expensive service, but I may plan on hitting koa's when necessary, especially if they all get a common wi-fi provider. There are enough koa's around so it should be simple enough and koa's seem to be consistently good campgrounds. Especially the grounds and bathroom facilities..... whereas, Good Sam's recommendations only mean they have a bathroom... and they are very inconsistent.

Looks like it would be very difficult to type on that tiny keyboard. Yes, I know you can get a folding keyboard that plugs in.

I always have my laptop along while traveling and occationally pick up a wifi signal and borrow a little bandwidth to download email etc.. The laptop also serves as storage for my pictures and for mapping when the GPS is attached.

Speaking of wi-fi, where have people been able to pickup signals?

I parked in West Hartford, CT, and got 3 hits. I guess the closer to a large business population, the better the chances are.....

Middletown, CT has Main ST. wired for wi-fi......

We all camp for different reasons, I fully understand that.

Personally, I seek out locations that include dead cell phones and no internet, carry no TV and only use radio for weather report. To me there is no more pleasant sound than NO ELECTRONIC noise or images, regardless of what music nature is providing. Just my opinion, and no offense intended to those who crave the electronically modified racket.....

Arne, last summer we found a couple of laundromats that had internet service. Not sure if that is a trend or not but might be worth checking out.

Cathy, thank you.... makes sense, do your email while your laundry dries.....

I have to do some searching on google, there are lists growing about hot spots.
