PETROMAX camping lanterns. Beautiful!

Postby Joanne » Thu May 05, 2005 8:48 pm

Hi all,

Since all of us here like to camp and most of us are into camping "stuff", here is a lantern that I found. These lanterns come in polished nickel as well as polished brass. They burn just about any fuel that you put in them. The appear to be made for a lifetime of use since you can purchase replacements of every single part of the lantern.

They are pricey, but look like they would be handed down for generations.

Here are a couple that I would love to be able to justify buying -but can't.

http://www.garrettwade.com/jump.jsp?lGen=detail&itemID=105802&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=10107&iSubCat=10111&iProductID=105802 You can get gimbals to wall mount this one.

http://www.garrettwade.com/jump.jsp?lGen=detail&itemID=107032&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=10107&iSubCat=10111&iProductID=107032 A few of these would look good hanging around IRARATs Crab, next to those $250 portholes.

Gosh those are nice, way out of the budget. I went to Walmart and purchased 6 Red Railroad Lanterns for $4.62 each. They will have to due for now. They burn almost anything including the citroneella oil. The best thing is they are almost disposible at that price, so it breaks Oh well

I despise mall-wart.

I can save up my sheckles for some of these. For now, the sites are bookmarked. We are still in design phase and wife came home sick so no telling when we'll get progress on that.

Joanne, those lamps are beautiful. I'm going to check into those. I use kerosene lamps at my cabin and have tried a lot of different kinds but never saw those. The brightest ones I use are Aladdin lamps which use kerosene and have a mantle but they don't require pumping. The only thing I would wonder about is how well the mantles would hold up in a trailer. The ones on the lamps I use are very fragile...and expensive.

I have two of these

And this one will probably be our next one.

The guys on the Unimog site were talking about them a year or so ago and they all swore by them. Said they were the best lanterns out there. I've never used one, my propane Coleman works fine for the money.

Those are some beautiful lamps. I'm partial to the nautical lamp myself, although they are all wonderful.

Those are beautiful lamps. My mom used to have one similar to the lower picture. It was close to 100 years old. Somewhere along the line it seems to have disappeared. <sigh>
