Shaking generates power for flashlight

Postby Chris C » Tue Jun 07, 2005 9:42 pm

I've tried to find the thread, but failed. Someone recently requested information about flashlights that can be charged by shaking. I came across a link and thought I'd pass it on.

Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Walmart here in Columbus also sells the same flashlight.

Shake it for 20 seconds and it lights up for 30 minutes.

I just bought three.

They sell them for $14.99.

Let's have a review..... sounds like too little work for that amount of light time..... if true, I'll grab a couple.... must be charging a capacitor.. not a battery.

The high-end flashlight of this type is NightStar http://www.nightstar1.com/. What distinguishes this from the competition is that the magnets that they use are so strong there is no need for any type of internal spring to keep the magnet from hitting the top or bottom of the flashlight.

Yes, they charge a capacitor.

Don't "should" on yourself, there are plenty of others who will "should" on you for no reason. Accept what you did and move on. Life is too short.

Also, the bulbs aren't the brightest things in the world. Good for their intended purpose, but don't expect to shine any deer with them. I believe most of them actually use an LED or three.

...I have the nightstarcs, it stays in the car as an emergency light and works well if used as intended, with only 1 led, it shines in one spot with more than suffecient light to see however it is not a spot or flood light, just a light to illuminate whatever you are working on
