Things that don't fit anywhere else...

wooden kayak builders

I know there are a few wooden boat builders on the site and I was wondering if anyone was going to the R2K wooden kayak rendezvous in Port Townsend, WA in August? We are building our tear for especially that weekend.

Juli n Bill,
That might be a good one for me to check out in the future...
I'll be doing an Outer Island design sometime in the future after the teardrop is done.
Are they still doing the Kinetic Sculpture Race up there?
(I raced in the very first event they had)

This will be our first trip to the Port Townsend area, so don't know about that race. Sounds like fun though.
We built a couple of Pygmy Artic Terns last summer and a strip baidarka is planned for the next project, after the tear is finished of course. Garage is only big enough for one project at a time.

Juli when in August is this?

I'm in Mt Vernon which is at the east end of the ferry ride from there. That sounds like fun.

I believe it is relatively close. I did a couple San Juan Island bike tours that started in Port Townsend and wandered across the islands to Victoria and back to Port Angeles.

Loved the area, it helped to pick the right time of the year, Aug-Sep

The R2K5 wooden kayak rendezvous is August 5th - 7th at Ft Worden State park in Port Townsend. For more info (although not much more) go to: http://redfishkayak.com/R2K5.htm

There's a couple of wooden kayak companies (Redfish, Pygmy Boats) in Port Townsend and this is one of the biggest gatherings of wooden kayaks. If you live on the East Coast there's a wooden kayak event on Newfound Lake in NH, I think that one is in September. Newfound Boatworks sponsers that one.
