Things that don't fit anywhere else...

TD builder identification

Postby Chip » Wed Jul 13, 2005 10:27 am

I have found a good way to positively identify a builder of teardrops,, You will see him wandering the isles of Lowes or Home Depot aimlessly,, pondering the use of non compatible materials, making mental and written notes on material cost, trying to figure out how the heck he(she) can fit one of those thingies into a teardrop, confusing the staff with questions and trying to explain what the heck a teardrop is and how you are going to use those materials,, this person is pitiful and we should all offer help and sympathy when ever we can,,
if you are unsure if they are a builder just look at his hands,, if they are covered in dark stains from Gorilla glue "abuse" then it is definately a builder of teardrops,, now if I could just get this stuff off my fingers I could go into a home improvement store incognito,,
Chippers new theorum: The possibility of removing any wood part is in direct relationship to the quantity of screws and gorilla glue used,,
ie if ya glue and screw it to stay forever,, it will be removed soon

yeall have a goodern

I'd like to elaborate on your theorem.

If you glue and screw it together, chances are it'll either split or just fall off.

If you need to be able to take it off in the future, it will somehow be permanently bonded.

Brad maybe we should start a teardrop building theorum pageor the murphy's laws of teardrops,,

1. only so much will fit in a 4x4x8 ft space, ya cant fit 10lbs of taters in a
5lb sack.
2. if wood is glued and screwed, the quantity of both used is relative to
the probability of removal,, the more you use the sooner ya got to
remove it,,
3. if ya glue and screw it to stay forever it will fall off first trip out, if ya
make it removable,, be ready to use a wrecking bar to do so
4. the hitch ball on your tow vehicle is always the wrong size and the one
need is sold out and on back order
5. on a one door trailer, the person next to the wall will always have to
use the bathroom first and most frequently
6. After building the trailer frame, builder goes out and buys a vintage four wheel drive to tow trailer so the frame won't appear to be overbuilt.
7. Take two materials which have never ever in the history of the world been joined together and somewhere, somehow, some teardrop builder has already tried to join them.

yall fell free to cut and paste and add to this list

Whatever sized ball you have on your hitch is not the right size for your trailer and the right size is nowhere to be found.

I'm thinking that you're concentrating too much on the glue and fasteners and not enough on what it is you're joining together. The substrates, as we adhesive boffins call 'em, matter a lot. This can be demonstrated by the following conundrum.

S**t achieves both the highest and lowest known coefficients of friction/stiction in the world:

Highest: 'sticks like s**t to a blanket' - a popular phrase, at least in Britain.

Lowest: 'slides like red hot s**t off a white hot shovel' - an old engineering expression in Britain to indicate absolute perfection in a bearing or machined surface (you have to supply the 'tssssss' noise in the background yourself - much more than bacon frying, but less than a steam engine blowing out its cylinders).

Point proved?

Dean,

You would have to buy a Peterbuilt in order to make your frame not look overbuilt :D

Smaller, faster, cheaper, stronger -- and you still can't have it your way.

Sorry, Dean I couldn't resist . btw, I used to have a 51 willys pu with a 283 chevy in front of the T90 trans., it even had the 5.38 gears in the differentials. Had lots of fun with that old truck.

If the front plate on your car is Teradrop trailer and your mailbox is too. Then you know you are beyond help.
