Bucksnort is near Grinder's Switch. Grinder's Switch is the name Minnie Pearl created for her hometown of Centerville, TN. There is (or was) a railroad switch in the nearby hills with the Grinders signpost. I grew up in Centerville and went to all 12 years of school there. For awhile, we lived in a trailer beside what's now an <wink>adult<wink> store in Bucksnort. My Dad leased it as a restaurant back then called Minit Burger. It was about 1970. The restaurant had a microwave oven that cooked burgers in a minute.

Newfoundland, Canada has some good ones...

-- Dildo
-- Conception Bay
-- Hearts Content
-- Hearts Desire
-- Come By Chance
-- Placentia Bay

Makes me think theres not much to do in Newfoundland in the winter except...

Nova Scotia has a few as well...

-- Ecum Secum
-- Musquodoboit
-- Meat Cove

Punkin Center, Colorado

Apparently a farmer built a store at a rural crossroads in the 1920s. As he added more buildings, he painted them all pumpkin colors. It was never more than a village, if that, but it all burned down in the 1950s. There's still a sign at the crossroads, though.

There's also a Model, Colorado. It is generously referred to as an "unincorporated community," and it does have a post office. I guess you have to turn off on the dirt road to find it. I have only seen the sign on the highway and a few fallen-down buildings. I don't know the story of the town, but my grandfather was born there. :)

Y Arizona. Actually it's Why Arizona because the US Post Office requires places to have at least three letters. Named after their intricate road network.

There is an abandoned town in Western Australia called Youanmi (pronounced You-an me)
My grandfather went there in 1913 on arrival in Australia from England.
