I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and did everything the Dr. said. Type 2. My numbers just didn't seem to change....last may my feet looked like reptile man, scaly, dry, peeling. a1c was 11.7 the Drs. nurse practitioner about fainted, I about fainted and she hollered at me. I guess I respond better to women...like getting yelled at by mom. So as we talked I found out I was taking my meds. wrong. Metformin 2 times daily----Took morning pill as I went out the door, got breakfast 15-60 minutes later. Nightime pill took before bed. Wrong. Take DURING the meal. Watching my diet and correcting the pill deal in 3 months a1c was down to 6.8 whew. The best thing we did, my wife and I went to a class at the hospital for cooking for Diabetics....what an eye opener. You will find what makes your numbers jump, mine is potatoes. Oh, and as my numbers came down my feet recovered ok.
They teach you to read the labels and this helps immensely, portion control is key. Dinner plate should be 9in not 12 in.
You can do it.
Good luck and don't despair.
