Does anybody make a Good manual can opener any more ???

First , we had a can opener , nothing special, lasted for 20 years or so . Now I buy a can opener , open a few cans and it either breaks or wears out ...

Seems they’re all made in China now , and made cheap , despite the price ... I’d hate to resort to combing the Thrift stores, looking for Vintage can openers that actually work . ... Any information or referral on the subject would certainly be appreciated... I figured if you want to know about a can opener, a camper was the one to ask ..

Most are junk.ive found one that works week but won't last 20 years! I'll be home tomorrow and I'll get the brand name

Would you believe Walmart has a US made can opener.
Seems to be rather good and solid. All I see on it is MADE IN USA on the crank.

OXO Goodgrips. Don't know where it's made but it's sturdy and mine has lasted several years.

I had the same problem with can openers last year. I did a lot of research and ended up getting this one http://www.chefscatalog.com/product/28417-Nogent-Super-Kim-Can-Opener.aspx from Chefs. Paid more that I wanted but so far it has held up very well, and has lasted longer than several others I tried

I'm about to show my age, but the old P 38 military can opener is essentially foolproof, you can carry it in your wallet (I do) and you get a few for the price of a clamp down. Just be sure to get a real steel one, not aluminum. I would almost bet that I can open any can with my P38 faster than any manual, crank model.

Had an OXO can opener worked fine for many years, but we replaced it with one from Pampered Chef that leaves a smooth edge. It doesn't cut the top, it kinda of undos the seam where the lid and can are joined, you can also put the tops back on if you have to. We've had this one for 10yrs or so.

I second this. My kitchen Swingaway has worked great for over 15 years with no problem. Don't ever soak one in water though. Ruins the greased bearings.

I have several of those and they do work great. Problem is getting the wife and kids to use them. I keep one taped the bottom of the food tote lid on all my food preps.

I also like the Swingaways. Everyone here seems to have old ones so the newer ones may be crap. Look for an old one.
