Federal Solar Tax Credits Extended (USA)

Postby MtnDon » Wed Dec 23, 2015 4:59 pm

It is official. Congress did extend the solar tax credits. The legislation extends the 30 percent tax credit for three years, through 2019. It then will drop to 26 percent in 2020 and 22 percent in 2022. After that, the tax credit will disappear for residential installations and fall to 10 percent for commercial projects. The credit will be 10 percent in 2022 and beyond for residential systems that are owned by a third party.

Interesting note: in past years the IRS has been allowing the solar tax credit for installations on RV's.

Thanks for the update MtnDon.
The 30% credit only makes my project using solar 24v panels to heat a hot water tank to support my infloor house radiant heat sound a little more feasible dollar wise. Hopefully I can run some experiments in January if I can find some used electric water heaters to use in my tests at little to no cost to me (a used but functioning one maybe coming out of a home remodeling, etc).

Last 2 weeks I tried to give away a perfect working 9 year old elec heater. No luck after 2 weeks. Finally went to dunp

I flipped it myself for $429,vs waiting till it broke plumber would want $999 for sure.
