Haircuts in this time of Pandangit

Postby Tom&Shelly » Sat Apr 11, 2020 5:07 pm

Spent my career either in the US Air Force or working with them, and always kept my hair above my ears. Been needing a haircut since the 2nd week of the stay-at-home order, and so I finally let Shelly cut mine:

What do you think? Pretty good huh!

Naw--I'm joking. Haven't worn my hair like that since about the 3rd grade. Makes me wonder how far I would have gone if I'd ignored my parents' and teacher's admonitions to comb my hair!

Also, I started growing a beard:

(That's after two weeks--just wait until it grows out.)

So what are you other guys doing who live in areas where the barber shops are closed?

My son is a barber and his shop is closed. I've become his practice dummy ... although I can't give him much to work with :D

My wife is not a barber, never cut hair in her life. But she cut mine anyway, and now it's very short.
Walking the neighborhood I see several men on the block with the same haircut as mine. A recent fashion trend I guess.
Number two on the sides, number three on the top. Good enough, ship it.

A few years ago I got tired of driving about 10 miles to my barber, barbers come and go.
I did some research and also watched a friend cut his own hair with a https://www.flowbee.com/ hair cutting system.
I bough the system that includes a small vacuum, it's easy to do and works great.
You can use about any vacuum or shop vac with it.
My wife trims the back of my neck with a hair cutter I got at Walmart.

I'm used to a #3 guard, rake the whole head, clean up a bit and call it good. I'm getting a bit shaggy now, but it's just hair, you can get it groomed when this thing clears up. Just be glad you can still take care of the forest trying to emerge out of your ears or nose.
(And why is it that that seems to be the fastest growing hair? :x )

I guess there is a benefit for having a shaved head. I had mine crew cut - before the situation started. I shaved it - the whole head. Now I don't have to worry about going to the barber. It does take longer to shave in the morning.

When we were kids, my Dad cut our hair. He would come home from work. Have a Manhattan to unwind, and make us stand on a chair and he buzz cut our hair. When I got to High School I found these razor combs called a Hair Wiz. They were advertised on TV, back before the "As seen on TV" stuff we have today. Fast forward 50 years and I am back to the Hair Wiz. I must say I can still do a decent job with it.

Anyone remember these? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-NOS-Ha ... Sw4A9enln1
