Happy Groundhogs Day!

Postby Tom&Shelly » Fri Feb 02, 2024 7:58 am

Happy Groundhog's Day Everyone! Depending on whether the little fellows see their shadows, we either have to endure six whole more weeks of Winter, or we only have a measly six more weeks of Winter left to endure!

Either way, we are halfway through Winter, and Spring camping is around the corner! :wine: :P :tipsy:  :M

Back at ya! Love the midwinter holiday.

I like to say that if the groundhog sees his/her shadow it'll be six more weeks of winter and if he/she didn't see their shadow it'll be a month and a half! Of course this whole groundhog day thing was created, me thinks, in areas where they don't even have what I would call winter. For example, Hope, Indiana.

This has been the weirdest winter I can remember. No snow until the first week of January. Then we get about six inches. Last week had highs approaching 40 degrees and this week highs are in the high 40s. Snow will be gone by the end of the weekend. Last winter we had snow cover from the end of November through most of March. Spring weather knocked it down to close to nothing in late March then BAM!, a big dump in early April. Loved it! I generally like winter. At least until March, then I'm ready for spring. Weird, weird winter this year.

PA's Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow! Early Spring! Although spring seems to have practically started before winter ever arrived up here in northern Michigan this year!

edit: Oh, Michigan's Woody the Woodchuck disagrees though, and she has a better accuracy rate at nearly 70%! I'll have to split the difference I guess....
