12v grounding ?

When I bought my cargo trailer the lights from factory that ran on the truck plug were grounded to the frame and cross members. I bought a breaker panel like the ones in RVs my question is can I ground all my new 12v lights that will run off the battery to the frame as well or do they need to run back to the panel that grounds back to the battery.

I'd ground them separately, back to the panel. And it keeps them isolated from the vehicle's 12V system.
