Electronics Masters and Junk Yard Dogs

Postby Guy » Wed Oct 18, 2006 6:21 pm

Dear All,

I have a Pick-a-part Auto junkyard a few blocks away and I am going there for some wiring parts. My question is; What are the best auto parts to get for a complete wiring system for a tear? What other parts would be available at the junk yard?
Regards,

Guy

It all depends on what you are looking for.... Can't think of a lot of automobile electrical parts that make good crossover parts for tear, except maybe auto stereo system, or courtesy lights. Maybe tail light assemblies IF you can find something suitable.

I was thinking about a mercury switch hooked up to a dome light in the galley

Guy,

Though not exactly what was on your wish list, the following parts, if they can be had cheap enough, can be used to help build a tear.

A "complete" electrical system would be hard to get from a car, but you could get a few parts.

Interior lights, fuse block, battery, battery cables, some wiring, though new would be better, fans, switches, a/c vents, flexible tubing for the vents, floor rugs, grab bars, van windows, curtains, seat vibrators/heaters, spare tires/wheels, and a few other things...

Many German cars are fitted with first-aid kits. These could be useful in the teardrop but their main benefit is in dealing with where the junk yard dog bit you in the **** (sorry, in the US that would be ***).

Are junk yard dogs compulsory in the US too? We have a law prohibiting ownership of a few dangerous dog breeds, but for some reason junk yard dogs were not included. How can an animal live by drinking motor oil and chewing camshafts?

If you can find a fire extinguisher that's always a good thing to have.

Thank you All

Thank You.

Dear Rob,

That was exactly what I was looking for. I would never have thought of the vents or tubing, even though I need it.

A good source for LED lights. I found all of my LED lights in wrecked cars for my teardrop
