Extra tail Lights

Postby Loader » Mon Nov 27, 2006 10:58 am

When I built my HF trailer, I only installed to two standard tail lights, and now I am planning on adding two more tail lights/turn signals to my trailer to help increase visibility. I would like to put two LED type lights on the rear bumper (yet to be built) or rear frame member.

Either way, my question is; can I just wire (splice) the LED tail lights into the existing tail light circuit or do LEDs require some special connections? That way they would work in conjunction with the existing lights.

Thanks
Earl & Kerry

Generally, properly designed LED tail lamps should just splice in to existing wiring like a standard incandescent tail lamp bulb.... Just take care that you have polarity of wiring correct. LEDS seem to think it more important to have correct polarity (polarity sensitive ) than a incandescent bulb (not polarity sensitive)

I added lights to the back on mine because I felt my tail lights were to far from the rear end. I just spliced them into the existing ones. If the lights are supposed to be trailer lights (not some homebrew light) then they should hook right up to 12V. If the individual LEDs need a resistor, it is usually already on the circuit board.
