Does anyone know where to get and how to install a "Hard Start Capasitor" in a window Air Conditioner?

Here's some more good info:

http://www.davewilson.cc/AirConditioning/

scroll down to: Air conditioning compressor problems...
http://www.toad.net/~jsmeenen/

These are mostly related to central air units, but window units
pretty much work the same way. Hope this of some use to you.

Are you adding a hard start capacitor or replacing a bad run capacitor?

In Denver ,I have used Tullar Electric Motor Services 3868 Tennyson St. Denver Co.80212 303-458-0824. I have known the dad from 1970 before he passed away and now his son is running it . He knows a lot about electric motors.

Here is a diagram. Depends on how your unit is wired. If there are two caps or one. If this doesn't look like what you have, let me know.

A hard start capacitor would wire up where the H and C are on the compressor cap of either one. The actual capacitor does not usually have letter markings. You'll have to trace the wires.

I used to live in Littleton. But had a Golden mailing address on Wide acre rd. I have a relative that still lives around that area. Her backyard looks at the big hill where they built the mall there.
I worked in Broomfeild at Cooper's heating and cooling.

Is Moose Hill still open. When I left, they were building another one. I miss eating at that place. The best mexican food ever.

Mostly miss seeing those beautiful mountains every morning. :(

It's no problem installing a hard start capacitor to a window unit, I've done it here at work many times. The hardest part is getting the unit opened up and find a place to let it lay. I'd put the largest one I could fit in there.

Hard start kit

Postby Woodyperk6 » Wed Jan 24, 2007 9:20 am

Call an air conditiong parts house or an appliance parts house. Ask for a hard start kit. You need to know the BTU rating of the window unit to get the properly rated hard start kit. They should have a two wire kit with a wiring diagram to show where to hook-up the wires. Make sure the power is off or the unit is unplugged befor you install the kit. Hope this helped you some.
