Defiant-ArmorMax-3D-Tactical-Flashlight

Postby mikeschn » Sun Mar 23, 2014 3:33 pm

I've been pretty unhappy with my 2D mag light lately. So I am thinking about upgrading the bulb to an LED bulb.

We happened to be at HD this morning, so I walked over an looked at their D sized flashlights. I found a really interesting 3D LED flashlight that I just had to test. It said it was almost 600 lumens. So I brought it home.

WOW! This thing is bright... In a few hours when it gets dark I'll compare this new flashlight to my 4D mag light which I upgraded to 1000 lumens. I'll have some pics for you.

Meanwhile, this is the flashlight I brought home today. If anyone is looking for a bright LED flashlight, check this one out at HD.

I got one of these awhile back. It has a huge, very bright white beam that's adjustable from flood to spot. Pretty cheap too.

I carry a flashlight on my belt for work, this is the best, easy to carry light, I've found http://www.maglite.com/maglite_xl50_led.asp Not much bigger than the original minimag, and plenty enough light to inspect from a distance on a dark airport ramp.

Okay, it's dark enough now...

The mag light with the 1000 lumens is on the left. The defiant with the 600 lumens is on the right.

See for yourself!!!

Looks pretty good!

How many lumens is the 2-D Mag light you're unhappy with, and how does it compare with the two in the test?

Rob,

If I had to venture a guess I would say the 2D Mag Light was about 10 lumens... :(

Here's the 2D mag light on the far left!

The XL50 Maglite is a terrific small flashlight. We have a pair.

The D cell Maglite flashlights come with replaceable White Star Krypton lamps and can be upgraded to Magnum Star Xenon lamps if desired. The standard light output of the two D cell model is 36.5 lumens or 16,200 peak beam candlepower.

I own one of these that uses a capacitor filtered release instead of battery's, best part is it recharges in 90 seconds off of 12 volt charger in my truck or a 120v in the house. It advertises a 120 min burn time, I've never tested it to see how long it actually last but I've never had it go dead on me with prolonged use. It then goes back into the holder, automatically recharges and is always fresh for use. :http://www.showfetys.com/p-645-53000-uc-3400-light-for-life.aspx:

It's dark enough here now for a comparison:
First picture is a Streamlight SL-20XP. This is an expensive rechargeable flashlight I bought several years ago. It was pretty bright for its day.

Here's the Ultrafire I paid $12 for. I zoomed the beam in a little just so you could see the edges of light in the photo:

It's pretty amazing how far LEDs have come in the last couple of years!

Mike,

I can see now why the Mag light has fallen from grace...

I parted with my 4-D Mag light a couple years ago, and now use a 251 Lumen Coast HP7, though after seeing your test results, I think it isn't so great.

Thanks for posting the pictures!

Looks like a great deal, especially when compared to the $100++ tactical flashlights at the big box sporting good stores.

Costco, if you happen to be a member, regularly has 500 - 750 lumen LED lights, generally about $13-15 each (of course in multi-packs, being Costco).
