Deep Cycle Battery

Postby Rainier70 » Mon Jul 14, 2014 8:30 pm

I am sure this has been discussed, and I have searched and found some good answers. I would like some recommendations on either a group 24 or 27 deep cycle battery. Not a starter amp battery.

I've had a Costco one for about 4 or 5 years now, but I have lost a cell in it. Rough roads I think. What does everyone like? Best bang for the buck? Thanks!

27's have more capacity and are physically larger and also heavier and usually cost more.

Bang for the buck??? Divide the $$ by the capacity (amp-hours) and see what they calculate out to.

Bigger, more capacity, can be better unless you are very carefully counting the pounds you drag about.

IMO, 4 to 5 years is pretty good service for a flooded wet cell lead - acid battery.

ODYSSEY makes a semi-deep cycle flat plate battery that doubles as a "starting battery".... Just put a 34-PC1500T in my Jeep because it had better specs the any other battery on market and the winch can suck up to 200 amps on hard pull.... Optima battery (red top) could not even come close ....

Best price on internet was found here....

Another product that looks promising is their LIFELINE brand line ... SEP also carries EXIDE which is well known brand...

Thanks for the responses. I've been gone (camping), so I am a little slow on getting back to you all, but I do really appreciate the time you took to answer.

Any batteries that are better at handling the vibration of gravel roads?

Spiral cell AGM, but any AGM should handle vibration better then traditional style wet cell lead acid.

Oddssey does not make a Deep Cycle battery and there have been reports of poor quality since they moved south of the border. We have a 150AH Lifeline AGM at 100# not light weight.

AGMs look good, but wow the price is certainly up there. Are they really worth 3 of the lead acid?
