7-way extender cable

Postby working on it » Sat Jul 19, 2014 10:20 pm

When I recently installed my 3500lb Dexter axle, I had to add a brake circuit, so I went all the way and converted from a 4-way flat to an RV-style 7-way flat blade cable and junction box. I used an eight-foot molded plug/cable from Northern Tool, but I really needed a longer cable. As-is, I had just enough to run the cable inside my 3" square-tube single drawbar to reach the plug-in on my '04 Silverado 2500HD. I didn't realize that 1) the cable was too short to be able to use with my other pickup ('98 GMC), or any other vehicle in the future, and 2) that I have to back within inches of the garage to hook-up power to test lighting, etc. of the trailer, when I'm working on it (then there's no room to easily squeeze in and out the bay-door for testing). So, I used a 7-way connector cable (like mine, a returned gift to my father-in-law- he didn't use it), and bought a "car-end" from Northern Tool, and made my own extension. Now I can connect to my truck for testing, without having to move it, or for use with my back-up GMC TV if need arise.
