Splice connectors and common ground wire

Postby abqlloyd » Wed Sep 10, 2014 8:45 pm

I have ordered my fuse box and plenty of other parts for my CTT. I had a discussion with a mechanic friend who said to avoid splice connectors for the ground at all costs. I was actually debating on whether to run separate ground wires back to the panel for each circuit or possibly tap a common ground wire.

Also the topic of a chassis ground came up. I've read the comments here and there seems to be some debate. I'm leaning toward a ground to the frame after grinding the paint and using some dielectric grease.

Any thoughts on splice connectors?

My approach, unless I find a reason why not, is to run the ground back to the panel. I am only talking about a 14 foot trailer, so why try to save on wire cost?

I ran dedicated grounds to all my devices. I did not ground my trailer frame.

I run dedicated ground (return) wires to every light, appliance, and outlet. They all terminate on the Ground Bus terminal strip. Then that is connected to battery minus (-).

I was leaning towards separate grounds. Wire is cheap but it's less cluttered with less wire.

Get a wire bus strip and mount it near the panel then run 1 wire back to the battery. It keeps everything organized and allows for additions. And they are only like $5 at home depot or lowes.

For safety sake run a bond wire from the ground strip at the fuse panel to the frame.

I chose the BlueSea panel. Common hot and ground with terminals for separate grounds.
