Light Fixtures

Postby RexInTheCity » Fri Dec 19, 2014 3:12 pm

I haven't come across many build threads where people talk about their lighting selections other than they are LED and 12v.

What is a good/reputable vendor? Is it better to buy a standard fixture and get LED "bulbs" for them or to go ahead and buy fully assembled LED fixtures? Are there any brands known to be avoided?

Thanks

"Frank Bear" has lights for teardrop trailers. teardroptrailerparts.com/RV_Lights
sailorsams.com/Lighting does too. They are more marine/boat oriented and generally cost more.
R-and-P-Carriages ebay store has many good lighting choices. It takes an effort to look through their vast parts inventory.
Amazon.com has many lighting choices.
All the above are good choices for interior lighting.

For outside running gear lighting etrailer.com/Trailer_Lights has a big selection.

superbrightleds.com has both interior and exterior lighting that you can choose from.

I was not real impressed with conventional RV lighting fixtures so bought a number of the lights from Sailorsam http://www.sailorsams.com/Frilight-Saturn-8716-12-volt-boat-light I bought it with the conventional bulbs and added my own G4 LED array. Also bought a pair of reading lights that do not seem to be available. These are the lights during construction. There are two more inside the cabin.

I used marine lighting from West Marine. Lots of choices, both expensive and not-so.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Shadow Catcher, I really like those round lights. Don't be surprised if they end up on my camper!

I used these LED lights from an eBay seller. They are quite bright and only cost $25.00 for a set of three with free shipping!! I use two inside (one as a reading light and the second on the ceiling) and the third in the galley.

Check 'em out !!

Rex, They have worked well for us and look better than the conventional RV lights. My first effort was to adapt one.

The current iteration has three of the round ones. One in the galley and two in the cabin one just inside of the doors on each side. The switches can be reached from outside. There are four LED puck lights under the front and rear cabinets.
