Open ground problem from generator

Postby wtcreaux » Sun Jan 18, 2015 8:00 pm

Am using this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050EGS5W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in my cargo trailer (6x12 TA trailer). When I connect my Honda i2000w generator (rubber feet), it won't allow electricity through it. Gives an error code of E2 - "open ground".

How do I correct??

Try a ground strap from the metal frame to a copper ground rod driven into the ground ( earth). Just a guess but it has worked for all the municipal electric companies for eons. P.S. let us know as it is a guess on my part!
Growing older but not up !

So first off: It does work when plugged into shore power?
Next: You can plug something into generator and it works?
Do you start the generator and then plug it in or are you connected and start the generator?

Also from website:
For those that may use a generator with this EMS, chances are your generator has a floating ground (most newer inverter generators made by Honda, Yamaha, etc. have floating grounds). The EMS will return an E2, open ground, error. The EMS will not allow any power to your RV with this error. You have two options to correct this situation. One, you can turn OFF EMS protection (via a switch located on the remote display) and operate your generator with no EMS protection. Or, two, you can insert a "bonding" plug (bonds the generator's ground & neutral together) in one of the generator's 110 volt outlets so you can operate your generator without having to turn off all EMS protection. The bonding plug is somewhat controversial. I'd suggest googling the pros and cons of doing so beforehand so you can make an informed and safe decision.
