Looking for a 20A 115VAC Shore Receptacle

Postby lesabret1 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 1:56 am

Anyone know where to get a 115VAC shore receptacle rated at 20A?
In searching, I've not been able to find one in the usual marine and RV supply sources.
All I've seen are 15A in the 115 VAC type.

I'll be using a 1000 watt inverter / charger that is spec'd at up to 20A when operating.

Thanks for any leads.

??? 1000 watts @ 120VAC = 8.33 amps .... something strange with that 20 amps rating if that is 1000 watts. If the surge is up to 20 amps that does not mean a 20 amp receptacle is needed.

Even a 2000 watt is less than 20 amps; 2000 watts / 120 VAC = 16.66 amps, and I would not even worry about that extra 1.6 amps myself. . The contacts inside a 20 amp receptacle are the same gauge metal in the 15 and the 20 amp units. The 20 amp outlet has the sideways slot added to accept a cord with the matching 20 amp prongs.

And, the circuit you will be plugging into in the campground/RV Park is only rated at 15A, and almost always has a 15A breaker and a 15A receptacle.

I am confused, Started my day absent my usual vodka,,,"Shore Receptacle" ??
Anyway, a 20a 115v receptacle is a common thing at any hardware or electrical store.
Its standardised name within N. America is, NEMA 5-20r. If you want locking, (what might be the lesser found item,,,) Its NEMA L5-20r
