25 cm LED light strip

Postby MtnDon » Thu Sep 10, 2015 4:24 pm

I found another LED light product I like. This is a 25 cm long (approx 10 inches) strip of LED's in an aluminum channel with an opaque plastic front / diffuser. Power is supplied by a USB micro port on one end. Touch the end opposite to turn on or off. Plus touch and hold the other end and it dims. With 4.91 volts going in on highest setting it uses 0.83 ampere. Brightness? I can't measure lumens, but mounted under a cabinet, above a work counter it covers a 2 foot length reasonably well. Affix to surface with double stick tape (not included).

I bought mine on aliexpress. Chinese. $4.88 with free shipping; 30 days from order date to it dropping into my mailbox. I've seen them on ebay for $9 buy it now and also on auction but have not followed to see ending prices.

Another nice find MtnDon.
How do you pay for yours from China if I may ask?
I am not going to use my regular credit card, so I in the past, got a prepaid credit card. But that was just not convenient for me.

I originally said Paypal. Upon reflection I believe aliexpress does not accept Paypal. I use PP on ebay. So I would have used one of my CC's. Citibank card probably as they have a simple to use virtual card number service. You get a special card number that can only be used by a seller once. Or sometimes I use my Bank of America card that has a similar feature where you limit the dollar amount and time length the card will work for.

Ok....that makes more sense. I could never use PP before.
This is thus one of the reasons I hesitate to purchase again from them. I also hate that it is China.

I don't upset myself so much any more over Chinese made goods, especially for stuff like this where the product is rather unique. I couldn't find a US made light like this I'm pretty sure. And there is nothing I can do about that.

I do use the virtual account number Citibank card service for almost all of my online purchases, no matter where the seller is. Paypal for ebay seems to work best there. All charges appear on the same CC statement under the main (real) account number. They have a desktop / downloadable 'app' to make getting numbers relatively simple. It does take a little more time for each use, but I worry less about who I give CC numbers to.
