Volt ammeter issue

Postby lrrowe » Sun Oct 11, 2015 6:55 pm

I have a volt amp meter similar to this:
Image

I wired it as shown in this Chinese diagram:
Image

But when I connect the final wire I get a quick 12.00 volt flash and then nothing but 00000's in the voltage field and something in the range of 65.99999 for the amps.

What might wrong?
Bob

It looks like it's a dual loop, which has the thin wires monitoring voltage & the thick wires monitoring the current flow. Can you test just the voltage side to see if it can read voltage from the + red thin wire & - from the black one only?

Just a shot in the dark, not really sure what's going on with it. Don't have one.

Contact the vendor. Most often I have had good response from the ones I've bought from.

Is any load connected when this happens? That response is indicating a short.

Yes my hot water heat pump with very low amp draw is connected and working.

Disconnect load and see what it does. Disconnect yellow wire and again see what happens.
Do you remember what the current measurement range spec?

I will try that this evening when I get home. Am at dentist office now.
I do think I recall getting the same reading even with no load.

I am not sure what the rating is. But it is very low. This is the load I am using.

Also the two I tested were off by 100% when measuring under an amp. Voltage was better, within a tenth of a volt

Thanks, just ordered one as I do not have time to play around with the current set. Maybe I will figure them out and use someday in the future on another job. I do like the simplicity in wiring.

Graniterich,

I received my meter the other day and am confused on how to wire it. The directions are printed in very small print on the back and are not clear to me. I sent a note to the seller for more understandable directions. But I thought I would ask ypu if you had simple directions you can share with me.

Thanks,
Bob

I think I found a diagram that should work for me. I will try it tomorrow.

Let me see what I have, my notes and memory seem to point toward the load ground going in line, not the positive as in that diagram. In other words the hots all are tied together, negative from battery goes into meter, negative load on the other terminal
