2 power sources for 1 fan

Postby wtcreaux » Wed Oct 28, 2015 9:47 am

I am wanting to power a Fantastic vent fan through my solar controller (load side) (as the day heats up) but also want to be able to run the fan at night when I'm in it.

Question - the only way I can think of is to run 1 power wire (with a diode) from the solar controller to the fan AND 1 power wire (with a diode) from the PD4045 to the fan. It has been a LONG time since I've used diodes......does this sound reasonable??

H.A. thanks for the reply.

My concern is running the fan off the battery when there are multiple days of limited sun (therefore not much solar charging).......I don't want to necessarily power the fan at night, running down the battery.....the trailer resides at a trailer storage lot.....

There needs to be switch between your battery and the fan. The diode just limits the current flow.

Having both connection means power can be taken from either side.

Hopefully when parked you have a switch to disconnect all items in the trailer.

Wire it to the battery and feed the battery with the solar charge controller. Just turn the fan off when not in use.

In storage you should not have the vent open anyway. No telling what can get into the trailer.

Having ventilation controls humidity which prevents mold and mildew.... One of the biggest heath hazards and repair/restoration problems with small trailers...
