Anderson power pole connectors

Postby KennethW » Tue Dec 22, 2015 10:40 am

Has anyone used the Anderson power pole connectors in place on the cigarette lighter type plugs? They would make a more positive connection.
One would cut the cords and splice in the power poles so the devices could be use ether way.

I have used them for assorted purposes for decades. One thing I like about the small versions is the ability to key a pair together in a different configuration. That allows / disallows connecting "wrong" things to some other thing. I hope that is clear; a picture would be better but I have none and don't feel like taking pictures right now.

You can also buy extra contacts and reuse the cases.

Ditto! When I was as kid I used Anderson power poles in my RC cars, although I think they had a different name then. Now I use them for all my ham radio connections, and for a few uses within the trailer. Cheap, simple, versatile, and reusable.

Thanks for the responses. I really think I will put in all power pole's for outlets. And make a couple pigtail cigarette lighter power outlet to be used if needed. The cigarette lighter power outlet are just too undependable.

Me too (sort of); I first encountered Anderson power poles when my son and I were racing 1/10 and 1/12 scale electric RC cars in the mid eighties. I believe they were named different too. Probably just a re-brand, repackage with a price premium being paid because they were R/C accessories. We just cleared out the attic a couple of weeks ago and put a box full of old lexan bodies in the trash. Too much stuff that was just old...

Funny, I still have a few of my old RC cars and their accessories in the basement too.

If you're going that way, there are all kinds of outlets available these days. Why settle for just one outlet...http://www.powerwerx.com/powerpole-power-distribution/

These are great quick type connectors, I fist started using these back in 2000 on my RC race cars. You might also look in to Dean's Plugs, similar style connectors.

The dean's look more robust but not gender-less.
I have just finished change over to the powerpole connector. It is nice that they are gender-less . (power-in power-out same plug)
Kind of like lego one use a lot. I use a lot more then I thought I would. I used over 30 pairs. With the low cost of the powerpoles everything can be plug in or unpluged without costing a lot.
I hope the reviews that they are good mid power connectors is right.
I will find out, I guess!!

I have no clue how all you guys say they are cheap :? :?

Everytime I order something from powerwerx I'm dropping $200 -$300 or more.

They are pretty widly used here.
Im using them for the charge conection between tow vehicle and camper plus some auxiliary outlets.
You can also string plugs in a line series and have a chain of 3 for instance running plugging into one outlet.

I when with the simple connectors. at a buck a piece it is about as low cost as one could find.

I used connector with the outside one driller for mounting so the end cost on the mounted connector is still only 2 bucks.
One could also drill a hole or route out a plate and glue in the connector.

Even so they are still low cost. When you consider the ebay one is free shipping and Powerwerx shipping is $4 it is about a wash.
Yes, if you are running higher powers the low cost 30 amp or 45 amp connector would work not for you. But if you are using a lead battery and not high power needs
(lights, fan, led tv, small shower pump, and phone charging). The only high power I use is a inverter to power a CPAP (410 watt 50 amp)and that has a 8" run of #12 wire(know it should be #10 but it is a short run).
What I have read is that powerpoles should be better then the standard car powerplug.
