proper microwave for campers, plus packing refrigerator

Postby gene so » Tue Mar 08, 2016 10:01 am

Hello,
I have decided to add a microwave to the construction of the galley. I am assuming the practical microwave would be AC and intend on plugging it into a GFCI receptacle in the galley. I would welcome input from experienced users as to wattage, size and reliability. My galley will be 65" wide and I will build my cabinets around this microwave. What's practical in size and wattage for a camper?

Also, I purchased a popup camper with its top torn off and have a refrigerator, amongst other things, for use.One issue I can see is how to pack the items in a refrigerator so that traveling does not affect them. I can gain valuable, common sense knowledge in this area.

THanks, Gene So

Here's one that seems geared for a teardrop.

I've only see one so far in a teardrop.

We trash bagged one of the bed pillows and latch in in the microwave the few times we bothered to take one.

You can get a 700w microwave that is suitable for a camper for less than $90.00. The physical size varies, so I'd go a little large on the location for it and trim it in so another can be installed later and have some margin for size.

The m-waves also require some ventilation when operating. It should not be built into a box with no room for free exchange of air. So yes, definitely leave space around it. We have ours tied down with a cam lock strap over the top. In our CT the turntable glass has never jumped out of the drive socket.
