embarking on a wiring design...

Postby martinpeat » Thu Apr 07, 2016 10:52 am

I'm starting the planning process for a teardrop and have been impressed with the amount of information on here - a great way to learn.

I've come up with this design for wiring, largely based on a lot of the diagrams seen here but many combined. I'd appreciate any comments...

1) Trailer lights: do these need to be fused & grounded within the trailer as well as tow vehicle?
2) On the tow vehicle is both a fuse and vsr needed?
3) Planning to ground the battery to the trailer chasis

Thanks for the confirmations. Those taillamps are a requirement in NZ.

Yes a connection to the galley hatch to make it removable. (Pin #2 and #5 would be free if using a trailer plug) Thanks for those other suggestions for connectors, they're probably a bit tidier to install and ideally I'll go for something flush mounted.

The drawing is original, but not the detail - that's a combination of about 5 different designs that I've seen on various websites, largely based on Daryl's http://www.nzmotorhome.co.nz/NZMotorhomeForum/viewtopic.php?t=11503 as I know I can source components locally.

Further reading on the ctek 250s and I've seen it has a VSR built in so that's removed. Solar and battery monitor will probably end up being add-ons later ($$) if needed.

I can't imagine why I'd remove my hatch, but here's the connector I use:
