I can only speak for hand-held models and I like the Garmin products. My first GPS was made by Magellan........... after the 3rd replacement under warranty (1 year), my GF bought me a Garmin E Trex and I love it!! I have had no troubles with it at all and have MANY, MANY miles of canoeing with it and no troubles.

If Magellan was alive, he'd be ashamed of the company that uses his name.

I use maps to get to the river I am floating on. After that, I use the GPS to keep track of the miles "ON" the river.

Bill,
I've only been married 28 years but I know just because I get a GPS, my wife isn't going to stop giving me "directions."

I wonder what a car with two steering wheels would do for a relationship? If one thinks of a better route, turn loose of the wheel and let the other take over. Probably wouldn't work and the car would end up with two broken steering wheels.

I've been canoeing for many years and seen alot of yelling and fighting about "who tipped the canoe over". I often wonder how many relationships have been done in by a canoe trip.

GPS units aren't bulletproof no matter what brand you buy. I have always prided myself on reading maps and having a good game plan to where you want to go but I mess up also. A good sense of direction is one of the best tools to have. It can get turned around just like anything else but works nice most of the time. ********Golf claps, as I step down from the soapbox.
